Ehwaz is a magical rune meaning "partnership" that comes up in the Study of Ancient Runes O.W.L.. During the 1995–1996 school year, Hermione Granger confused it with "eihwaz," another rune which meant "defence."[1] Regardless, she still passed with an Outstanding.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

  • In reality, ehwaz is the proto-Germanic word for horse, while eihwaz is yew-tree.
  • In the Futhark alphabet, Ehwaz is a rune appearing as an M, representing process, advancement and movement.
