Eihwaz is a magical rune meaning "defence" which came up during the 1996 Ancient Runes O.W.L.[1] Hermione Granger confused it with ehwaz, another rune which meant "partnership", but she still achieved an Outstanding[2].
Behind the scenes[]
- Eihwaz is actually the Germanic word for yew-tree, while ehwaz means horse.
- Like Ehwaz, Eihwaz is also a rune in the Futhark alphabet, representing defence, patience, waiting and calmness.
Appearances[]
