A hedgehog is a spiny mammal with a nose like a pig. It is used in transfiguration class. Thaddeus Thurkell, a wizard, once had seven children who turned out to be Squibs. In anger, Thaddeus turned them all into hedgehogs.
The Knarl greatly resembles a hedgehog; behaviourally the only difference between the two is that a hedgehog will happily accept a gift of milk, whereas a Knarl will believe it to be an attempt to lure it into a trap.
