The horse (binomial name Equus ferus caballus) is an odd-toed ungulate mammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae.[1]

The fictional Babbitty Rabbitty featured in one of the tales of Beedle the Bard's made a horse levitate.[2]

There are magical versions of horses in the wizarding world, such as winged horses and unicorns. The lower bodies of centaurs are of horses, which makes some wizards and witches to mistake them as half-breeds of horses and humans. The body of a Hippogriff is half-horse and half-eagle.[3]

  • In his first flying lesson, when Harry Potter's broomstick was one of the only ones to fly up to his hand on his command, and he noted Hermione and Neville's not having done so, he thought that broomsticks might be like horses, able to tell when one was afraid.
