A personal chart (also known as a natal chart or a birth chart) was a circular chart, showing the relative positions of the planets at the time of an individual's birth, which was used in astrology.[1] The creation of one was a time-consuming process, involving the consultation of timetables, as well as the calculation of angles.[1] Once completed, it could be combined with data on upcoming planetary movements to create a horoscope, a personal forecast.[1][2]
On 2 September, 1994, Sybill Trelawney had all of her fourth year Divination students draw up a personal chart in class, then gave them the homework assignment of creating a horoscope with it.[1]
