Professor Stephen William Hawking (b. 8 January, 1942) was a Muggle theoretical physicist, internationally considered the best since Albert Einstein. He suffered from Lou Gehrig's disease for at least twenty years, and was confined to a wheelchair because of it. One of his works, A Brief History of Time, was also read by some wizards who had an interest to know the Muggle views on Physics.[1]

The name "Stephen" comes from the Greek name Στεφανος (Stephanos) meaning "crown".
