The Training Grounds is where Flying classes are taught to first years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by Madam Hooch. The grounds are flat, short-cut grassy areas and are located near the Herbology greenhouses. It is overlooked by the Training Grounds Tower and the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower.
During the 1996–1997 school year, the Hufflepuff Dueling Club held its practices in the Training Grounds. A secret room is located at the grounds.
Behind the scenes[]
The grounds
- The grounds of Alnwick Castle were used to film the Training Grounds scenes in the first film adaptation. However, in the later films the Training Grounds become slightly different, with a ruined section.
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, this was also where Oliver Wood taught Harry Potter about the rules of Quidditch. In the novel, that discussion took place on the Quidditch pitch.
The training grounds and their tower
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets the Whomping Willow is located in the Training Grounds. In the subsequent film adaptations, the Whomping Willow is in a much different area.
- In the video game version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the training grounds are not accesible, but you can clearly see them if the player stands in front of the Owlery.
- In the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the training grounds is covered with thin greenist mist with muddy-looking grass and appears ruined.
